REMEMBERING A MOMENT OF FLOW
“I experienced a state of flow during a crazy physical challenge event called Tough Mudder. These are not races; they are a personal mental and physical challenge. I was on a team at Mount Snow in Vermont - thirty-four miles of running, climbing over cargo nets, through giant dumpsters of ice water, through mud and under barbed wire, plus scaling 15-foot walls. It is not timed - the goal is to finish together. It is about reaching out your hand to help another person you don’t know, make it. There is complete focus but also positive energy and strong spirit of camaraderie.”
CAREER HIGHLIGHTS
Dave and Croft Edwards were Lieutenants together in the Army in both Korea and Colorado. Much of Dave’s time in the Army was in leadership positions, including an M1 tank Platoon Leader in Korea and an M1 tank company Executive Officer.
In his role at Accenture he taught their new consultants coast-to-coast, and served as instructor for their Business Solutions Implementation course at the Accenture Worldwide Training Center. A Six Sigma Black Belt, he has worked on several Six Sigma projects in the financial services industry, with direct cost savings totaling over $40 million. He directed the Product Portfolio Management Group for an international Financial Services company, redesigning their company wide development process, and implementing an approach to measure and evaluate the portfolio of products. The results of these efforts included reduction of product development cycle time by 30% and improvement of overall productivity by 28%.
Dave brings an unusual perspective to coaching as he blends the rigorous structure of his military experience and Six Sigma analytical expertise with his study of interpersonal leadership behaviors and the communication arts. He believes that the best thinking in the world will not work unless one-to-one communications are effective. “Discipline regarding operations must be married with communication and human skills, as it is the so called “soft” skills that get you the hard results.”
